Char Siu: Chinese Barbecue Sauce

Instructions

Combine all ingredients except salt in a double boiler, or directly in a saucepan with frequent stirring to prevent sticking.

Simmer over medium-low heat for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Taste the sauce and add salt if desired.

Remove from heat, then cool for 5 to 10 minutes.

Use immediately or transfer to a lidded container and refrigerate once fully cooled.
