Cast Iron Steak

A quick and easy method for achieving a perfectly seared, restaurant-quality steak using a cast-iron pan at home.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.

  2. Allow steaks to rest at room temperature for 20-40 minutes, then season with salt and pepper just before cooking.

  3. Heat oil in a cast-iron pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  4. Sear steaks for 3-4 minutes per side.

  5. Check internal temperature for desired doneness: 110 F for rare, 120 F for medium-rare, 130 F for medium, 140 F for medium-well, and 150 F for well-done.

  6. Optionally, place butter on each steak; if not done, transfer the pan to the oven and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until desired temperature.

  7. Rest steaks on a cutting board for at least 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
