Cabbage Casserole With Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Start boiling salted water and cook sliced cabbage for 3 to 4 minutes.

  3. Drain cabbage, stir in 2 tablespoons butter, and set aside.

  4. In a small saucepan, melt 6 tablespoons butter, then whisk in flour, salt, and pepper until smooth; gradually add milk and cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly.

  5. In a greased 3-quart baking pan, layer half of the drained cabbage with half of the cream sauce, then repeat with the remaining cabbage and sauce.

  6. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.

  7. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter, toss with breadcrumbs, and sprinkle over the cheese layer.

  8. Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes.
