Buttermilk Fried Mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a wide pot to 350-375 F.

  2. Clean and trim mushrooms, then toss them in a bowl with buttermilk to coat.

  3. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl or bag.

  4. Remove mushrooms from buttermilk, letting excess drip, then toss them in the flour mixture to coat thoroughly, shaking off any extra.

  5. Fry mushrooms in single layers for about 3 minutes until golden brown, then transfer to a cooling rack.

  6. Sprinkle with salt and serve hot, plain or with a preferred dip.
