Buttermilk Biscuits From Scratch Recipe

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F.

  2. Whisk dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl.

  3. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form.

  4. Form a well, pour in cold buttermilk, and stir with a fork just until a sticky dough forms.

  5. Form dough into a ball and transfer to a floured surface.

  6. Pat dough into an 8x4-inch rectangle, fold in thirds, and repeat folding twice more.

  7. Roll or pat dough to 1/2-inch thick on a floured surface. Cut with a biscuit cutter and place on a lined baking sheet; re-roll scraps for additional biscuits.

  8. Make a thumb depression in each biscuit and brush tops with buttermilk.

  9. Bake for about 15 minutes until risen and golden.

  10. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes before serving.
