Brown-Eyed Susan Cookies

Brown-eyed Susan cookies are sugar cookies with a chocolate center designed to resemble the flower of the same name.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F.

  2. Cream butter, sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and salt in a medium bowl.

  3. Stir in flour, then cover and refrigerate the dough for 1 hour.

  4. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place on an ungreased baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 6 minutes, then remove from oven and quickly press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie.

  6. Return to oven and bake for an additional 2 to 4 minutes, until cookies are light golden and chocolate is soft.

  7. Cool on the pan for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
