Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 F and line a baking sheet.

  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; cook, stirring, until the sediment turns a rich brown. Immediately cool the saucepan in a water bath to stop cooking.

  3. Stir sage and thyme into the browned butter, then let it cool completely to room temperature.

  4. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt; whisk thoroughly.

  5. Stir the cooled brown butter mixture and milk into the dry ingredients until just moist.

  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead 3-4 times, and pat into a 1/2- to 3/4-inch thick circle.

  7. Cut out biscuits with a cutter, place them on the prepared baking sheet, and repeat with any dough scraps.

  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes until browned, then brush the hot biscuits with 1-2 tablespoons of melted butter.
