Instructions
-
Prepare baking sheets by lining with a nonstick silicone mat or greased aluminum foil; use one per candy color.
-
Combine 1/2 cup water, 3/4 cup light corn syrup, and 2 cups granulated sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat; stir until the sugar dissolves.
-
Use a wet pastry brush to clean sugar crystals from the pan's sides.
-
Bring the syrup to a boil, insert a candy thermometer, and cook, stirring occasionally, until it reaches 300 F (150 C).
-
Remove from heat, allow bubbling to cease, then rapidly mix in 2 to 4 teaspoons of flavoring extract and 1/2 teaspoon gel food coloring.
-
Pour the candy mixture onto the prepared sheets, allowing it to form a thin layer.
-
Cool the candy completely at room temperature for up to 2 hours until fully set.
-
Once firm, remove the candy from the sheet and break it into small pieces.
-
Place powdered sugar in a bag and individually coat each candy shard by shaking until covered; repeat for all colors.
-
Serve.
