Broiled Italian Meatballs

Heart-healthy Italian meatballs, made with lean ground round and skim milk, are easily prepared by broiling for a lighter alternative to frying.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the broiler and position the oven rack 7 inches from the broiling unit.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine chopped onion, ground round, bread crumbs, grated Parmesan, evaporated skim milk, egg, Italian herb seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  3. Mix all ingredients thoroughly, then wet your hands and form the mixture into 15 meatballs, each approximately 1 3/4 inches in diameter.

  4. Spray a broiler or rimmed baking pan with vegetable oil, then arrange the meatballs on the pan.

  5. Broil for 5 minutes, then turn the meatballs over and broil for an additional 5 minutes.

  6. Serve the meatballs as desired.
