Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 F (150 C).

  2. In a bowl, cream together sugar and butter until light, then beat in milk and golden syrup.

  3. Sieve flour and baking soda into the wet mixture, folding until combined.

  4. Fold in oats, then chill the dough in the fridge for 10 minutes.

  5. Meanwhile, prepare a baking sheet by greasing or lining with parchment.

  6. Divide dough into 1-ounce (25-gram) portions, roll into balls, and arrange on the prepared sheet 2 inches apart.

  7. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown; do not increase oven temperature to rush baking.

  8. Remove from oven and let stand on the baking sheet for 10 minutes to set.

  9. Transfer cookies to a cooling rack and cool completely.
