Bread Machine Hot Cross Buns
Classic hot cross buns are effortlessly prepared using a bread machine for the dough, then shaped, baked, and finished with decorative crosses.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350F.

Whisk together 3/4 cup milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla, and one egg.

Add the milk mixture, flour, granulated sugar, salt, yeast, and butter to the bread machine as per manufacturer's instructions.

Set the machine to the dough cycle; add cinnamon and dried fruit at the beep.

Once the dough has doubled, transfer it to a floured surface, punch down, knead briefly, and let rest for 10 minutes.

Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.

Divide dough into 2 to 2 1/4 ounce pieces, shape into balls, and place in the prepared pan. Cover and let rise for 40 minutes.

Combine egg yolk with 2 tablespoons water and brush over the buns.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown, then cool completely on a rack.

Stir together confectioners' sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, adjusting consistency with water or more sugar.

Drizzle crosses onto the tops of the cooled buns.
