Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375 F.
-
Combine 1 cup warmed milk, 1/4 cup cut unsalted butter, 1 beaten large egg, 3 1/3 cups bread flour, 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon fine salt, and 2 teaspoons active dry yeast in a bread machine according to manufacturer's instructions, then run the dough cycle.
-
Once the cycle completes, transfer the dough to a floured surface, knead for 1 minute, then allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
-
Roll the dough into a 15 by 10-inch rectangle, then brush with 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter, leaving a 1-inch border.
-
In a bowl, mix 2/3 cup chopped toasted nuts, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2 1/2 to 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon nutmeg; sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
-
Tightly roll the dough from a long side, pressing the edges to seal and form a 15-inch roll. Cut the roll into 12 1-inch-wide pieces.
-
Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan and arrange the cut rolls face down inside.
-
Cover the pan and let the rolls rise in a warm, draft-free area until doubled in size, which takes 30 to 45 minutes.
-
Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
-
Prepare the icing by combining 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 1 to 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract in a bowl, stirring until smooth and adjusting consistency as needed.
-
Cool the baked rolls in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then drizzle with icing and serve warm.
