Basic Vegan Gravy

A robust vegetarian and vegan gravy recipe ensures a perfectly thickened sauce every time.

Instructions

  1. Heat vegan margarine in a large skillet over medium heat, then sauté onion for 2 minutes.

  2. Stir in flour and garlic salt, continuing to sauté for 5 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning.

  3. Whisk in cornstarch and vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer, stirring frequently until the gravy thickens.

  4. Add nutritional yeast (if desired) and soy sauce. Reduce heat to very low, cook and stir for 1 minute. Add more liquid if needed, noting gravy thickens upon cooling.

  5. Serve.
