Basic Broiled Top Round Steak

A quick and simple broiled top-round steak, ideal for serving with baked potatoes and vegetables, can be prepared in approximately 30 minutes.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the broiler for 10 minutes, positioning the rack 5 inches from the heat source.

  2. In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon olive oil, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, and 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper.

  3. Rub this mixture all over a 2- to 3-pound top round steak (about 1 1/2 inches thick) and place it on an oiled broiler pan rack.

  4. Broil the steak for 10 to 12 minutes, then flip and broil for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until desired doneness is achieved.

  5. Slice the steak thinly and serve.
