Basic 3-Layer Cake

An easy-to-make, three-egg, three-layer cake with a rich buttery flavor, ideal for any occasion.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F for layer cakes or 350 F for a rectangular pan.

  2. Grease and flour three 8-inch cake pans, or one 9x13x2-inch baking pan.

  3. Cream butter and sugar until light; blend in egg yolks.

  4. Combine milk with vanilla. Separately, stir dry ingredients.

  5. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk-vanilla mixture to creamed ingredients in thirds, blending until smooth.

  6. Beat egg whites until stiff, then gently fold into batter.

  7. Pour batter into prepared pan(s).

  8. Bake layer cakes at 375 F for 20-25 minutes, or the rectangular cake at 350 F for 35-45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
