Basic 3-Layer Cake
An easy-to-make, three-egg, three-layer cake with a rich buttery flavor, ideal for any occasion.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 F for layer cakes or 350 F for a rectangular pan.

Grease and flour three 8-inch cake pans, or one 9x13x2-inch baking pan.

Cream butter and sugar until light; blend in egg yolks.

Combine milk with vanilla. Separately, stir dry ingredients.

Alternately add dry ingredients and milk-vanilla mixture to creamed ingredients in thirds, blending until smooth.

Beat egg whites until stiff, then gently fold into batter.

Pour batter into prepared pan(s).

Bake layer cakes at 375 F for 20-25 minutes, or the rectangular cake at 350 F for 35-45 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
