Banana Bread

Preheat oven to 350 F and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl; set aside.

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (3 minutes). Incorporate eggs one by one, then vanilla, mashed bananas, buttermilk, and optional orange zest or cinnamon.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the banana mixture, stirring until just combined and the batter is thick.

Pour batter into the prepared pan and, if desired, sprinkle with chocolate chips.

Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
