Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F and lightly oil a 3-quart baking dish.

  2. If using fresh ravioli, start boiling a large pot of water and cook according to package directions, then drain thoroughly. Frozen ravioli does not require pre-cooking.

  3. Combine ricotta cheese with 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese in a small bowl.

  4. Spread 1 cup marinara sauce in the prepared dish, then layer with half of the ravioli and another 1 cup marinara sauce.

  5. Evenly spoon the ricotta mixture over the sauce, then top with 1 to 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese.

  6. Add the remaining ravioli, then top with the remaining mozzarella and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese.

  7. Bake fresh ravioli uncovered for 30-40 minutes until browned and bubbling. For frozen ravioli, bake covered for 35 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until browned.

  8. Let the casserole stand for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with basil and extra Parmesan, if desired.
