Baked Parmesan Vidalia Onions

A sweet and buttery blooming onion, topped with Parmesan cheese, makes a perfect accompaniment to steak, soup, or salad.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F.

  2. Peel and trim the root ends of the onions, leaving the roots intact.

  3. Cut each onion into eighths, stopping at the root, then gently separate the layers.

  4. Place each onion on a lightly greased foil square.

  5. Scatter 1 tablespoon of finely cut butter over each onion, distributing it among the layers, then season with salt, pepper, and 3-4 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese.

  6. Seal each onion in its foil and arrange them in a 9x13x2-inch baking pan.

  7. Bake for 1 hour.

  8. Serve.
