Instructions

  1. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil or shortening to 350F in a deep skillet or saucepan.

  2. Combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon fine salt in a bowl.

  3. Stir in 1/2 cup milk until the dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough 3 to 4 times on a floured surface.

  5. Divide the dough into 4 pieces, form each into a ball, and roll into 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick circles.

  6. Create a depression in the center of each dough round.

  7. Carefully slide 1 or 2 dough pieces into the hot oil and fry for 1 to 2 minutes per side until lightly browned.

  8. Remove fried dough to paper towels to drain.
