Aussie Meat Pie
An Aussie meat pie features a savory filling of ground beef, onions, and gravy, traditionally served with a tomato-based topping.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425 F (220 C).

Heat olive oil in a skillet, then sauté the finely chopped onion until soft.

Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain if desired.

Whisk cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of beef stock.

Stir remaining beef stock, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and Vegemite or bouillon into the ground beef.

Add the cornstarch mixture, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes until thick; cool the filling.

On a floured surface, cut pie dough into four base circles (slightly larger than pie tins) and four top circles (tin-sized).

Press base pastry into pie tins, fill with cooled meat mixture, and brush the rims with water.

Place pie tops over the meat, use a fork to seal the edges, trim if needed, and brush tops with beaten egg.

Bake pies on a tray for 20 minutes or until golden, then serve with tomato sauce.
