Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.

  2. Peel, core, quarter, and coarsely chop the pears.

  3. In a large bowl, toss chopped pears with vinegar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, garam masala, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and salt.

  4. Transfer the pear mixture to a 2-quart baking dish.

  5. Combine flours and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar in a medium bowl; cut in butter until crumbly.

  6. Spread the crumbly flour mixture evenly over the pears.

  7. Bake for about 40 minutes, until bubbling and browned. Let stand 10 minutes before serving warm.
