Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat.

  2. Add red pepper flakes and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. Stir in shallot and sauté for 2 minutes until translucent.

  4. Add garlic and tomato paste, stirring for 1 minute until fragrant and combined.

  5. Stir in tomatoes, then raise heat to high and bring to a boil.

  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally and breaking up tomatoes, until thickened.

  7. Stir in basil, then season with salt and additional pepper flakes as desired.
