Applesauce Cake With Cream Cheese Frosting

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 F (180 C) and butter a 9-inch-square baking pan.

Sift flour, granulated sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and baking soda into a bowl; blend thoroughly.

Stir in melted butter, applesauce, and a beaten egg until the batter is well blended.

Fold in raisins and 1 cup chopped walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool the cake on a rack for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.

For the frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until fluffy. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, and vanilla, adding more milk for desired consistency.

Frost the cooled cake and sprinkle with additional chopped walnuts, if desired.
