Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 F with a 9- or 10-inch cast-iron skillet inside.

  2. Toss apple slices with brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt.

  4. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon melted butter together.

  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined.

  6. Carefully remove the hot skillet, add the remaining butter, and swirl to coat the bottom.

  7. Arrange the spiced apple slices evenly in the pan.

  8. Pour the batter over the apples.

  9. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.

  10. Serve immediately with syrup or confectioners' sugar.
