Apple Crisp

A classic apple crisp is made with tender apples and a crunchy, buttery brown sugar and oatmeal topping.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter a 2-quart baking dish or six to eight 1- to 2-cup dishes.

  2. Combine flour, 3/4 cup brown sugar, salt, and butter; work until crumbly, then mix in oats and set aside.

  3. Peel, core, and slice apples, then toss them with lemon juice, 1/3 cup brown sugar, and cinnamon.

  4. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared dish(es) and top evenly with the crumb mixture.

  5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is browned and crisp.
