Preheat oven to 375 F and grease a 2 1/2- to 3-quart baking dish.

Toss sliced apples with cranberries and lemon juice in a large bowl.

In a separate bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt; add to the fruit mixture and toss to coat. Stir in apple juice and vanilla.

Spread the fruit mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish and dot with soft butter.

For the topping, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.

In a small bowl, whisk the egg with cream and melted butter; stir into the dry topping ingredients and beat until smooth.
