Apple Cider Old Fashioned

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 cup apple cider, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1/2 nutmeg seed, 10 whole cloves, and 10 allspice berries in a small pot.

  2. Simmer the mixture, stirring until the sugar dissolves, then continue simmering on low for 15 minutes uncovered.

  3. Remove from heat, allow to cool, then strain the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer.

  4. In a mixing glass, add 2 1/2 ounces bourbon, 1/2 ounce apple cider syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

  5. Fill the mixing glass 2/3 with ice and stir rapidly for 30 seconds until thoroughly chilled.

  6. Strain the cocktail into an Old Fashioned glass over one large ice cube.

  7. Express an orange peel over the glass, then use it along with an apple slice and a cinnamon stick for garnish.
