Apple and Cranberry Wassail

Instructions

  1. Prepare garnish by studding oranges with cloves and slicing them into rounds.

  2. In a large saucepan over low heat, combine 4 quarts apple cider, 2 quarts cranberry juice, 1 tablespoon bitters, 4 cinnamon sticks, 1 tablespoon allspice, and 2 cups rum (if using).

  3. Heat the mixture gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Place desired garnishes (cinnamon stick, star anise, orange slice) in each mug, then pour in the wassail and serve.
