Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 F and prepare a baking sheet.

  2. Cream the butter or lard with 3/4 cup sugar.

  3. Crush the aniseeds and mix them into the creamed mixture along with the egg and brandy.

  4. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.

  5. Divide the dough into two 1-inch thick disks, then wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.

  6. Combine 1 cup sugar with cinnamon in a bowl for the coating.

  7. On a floured surface, roll one chilled dough disk to 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes.

  8. Dip each cookie in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, then place on the prepared baking sheet.

  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool.

  10. Repeat with the remaining dough and serve.
