Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Combine yeast and warm water in a large bowl.

  3. Stir in milk, brown sugar, salt, and butter.

  4. Mix in 4 cups of flour, then gradually add more until the dough follows the spoon.

  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until firm and smooth.

  6. Grease a large bowl, place the dough, turn to coat, cover, and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.

  7. Punch down the dough.

  8. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes to remove air bubbles.

  9. Divide dough into two equal portions and shape each into a loaf.

  10. Place loaves in greased 9x5-inch pans, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes until doubled.

  11. Bake loaves for 40 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow when tapped.

  12. Remove loaves from pans and cool on a rack.
