Advocaat—Traditional Dutch Eggnog

A festive Dutch drink, Advocaat is a rich, brandy-spiked blend of egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla, reminiscent of traditional eggnog.

Instructions

  1. Beat 10 egg yolks, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/3 cups sugar until the mixture thickens.

  2. Slowly beat in 1 1/2 cups brandy or cognac until well blended.

  3. Warm the mixture in a saucepan over low heat, continuously whisking until hot and thickened, ensuring it does not boil.

  4. Remove from heat and whisk in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

  5. Allow the advocaat to cool, then refrigerate for a minimum of 3 hours.

  6. Serve in small glasses, optionally topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder.
