Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Thaw 1 package of puff pastry sheets, then cut 18 (3-inch) squares from both sheets.

  3. Arrange pastry squares on baking sheets, prick with a fork, and chill while preparing pears.

  4. Melt 4 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced Bosc pears, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla (if desired). Cook, stirring, for 8-10 minutes until pears are tender and the mixture thickens.

  5. Place half the cooked pears onto the chilled pastry squares, reserving the syrup.

  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until puffed and golden. Repeat with the second baking sheet and remaining pears.

  7. Drizzle baked tarts with reserved syrup and optionally garnish with powdered sugar. Serve warm.
