Instructions

  1. Rinse and pat dry fresh figs, then trim stems and halve them lengthwise.

  2. In a medium frying pan, melt butter over medium heat, then stir in honey until combined.

  3. Place figs cut-side-down in the honey-butter mixture. Cook for about 5 minutes, shaking the pan occasionally and spooning the mixture over the figs until bubbling and browning.

  4. If using fortified wine, remove figs, whisk in the wine, and simmer for about 2 minutes until thickened.

  5. Return figs to the pan, spoon sauce over them, and heat through.

  6. Serve hot or warm, optionally with ice cream, yogurt, or whipped cream.
